Mission
The purpose of Protect Our Woods and this website is to help engage and connect with the public by providing accessible information and activities related to the project. Protect Our Woods is 100% volunteer-driven.
Hillside Woods Restoration Project Background
The Village of Hasting-on-Hudson, NY has embarked on a journey to restore a healthy habitat to its 100-acre wood. Without intervention, the future of the woods is bleak.
The Hastings Conservation Commission began examining Hillside Woods' ecology and educating the public with a series of panelist forums in 2016. The Village won a grant to create a forest management plan in 2018, which was executed by Land Beyond the Sea, a consultancy from Ithaca, NY. The Village began work on the restoration project in 2019.
