Our drinking water company is Veolia North America. While Veolia is a corporate entity with an eye toward profit, it employs conservationists to best manage its resources, working with area communities to help residents conserve water. Every drop you use takes energy to treat and pump, and reducing water use lessens our collective carbon footprint.
Our sewage goes to Yonkers Joint Wastewater Treatment Plant (YJWWTP), located at 1 Fernbrook St on the Hudson River waterfront. This facility treats up to 145 million gallons of sewage daily for over 500,000 residents in 22 municipalities. Operated by the Westchester County Department of Environmental Facilities, it serves 55% of the county, utilizing both primary and secondary treatment processes.
The Hastings Conservation Commission is now a member of the Westchester Coalition for Clean Water, which is working to reorganize sewer districts and improve sewage infrastructure.
