The purpose of Hastings Green and this website is to help engage and connect with the public by providing accessible information and activities related to environmental issues in Hastings-on-Hudson. Hastings Green is 100% volunteer-driven.
The Village of Hasting-on-Hudson, NY has embarked on a journey to restore a healthy habitat to its 100-acre wood. Without intervention, the future of the woods is bleak.
The Hastings Conservation Commission began examining Hillside Woods' ecology and educating the public with a series of panelist forums in 2016. The Village won a grant to create a forest management plan in 2018, which was executed by Land Beyond the Sea, a consultancy from Ithaca, NY. The Village began work on the restoration project in 2019.
Our Hillside Woods Restoration Project section on the Hastings.gov website lists past public presentation materials and a detailed history of the project.
